Canva is great… it is brilliant at hiding its free resources from its users. So if you were trying to hunt out the right vintage fonts for your retro designs, it won’t be surprising if you would have hit a dead end.

You can simply type the names of the fonts in Canva’s text search box and add them to your projects. 

1. EFCO Brookshire

About Font: EFCO Brookshire is a decorative serif vintage font that reflects a handmade touch.

Origin: Gilan gave birth to this font. He got this idea when he visited the French Flea market in France. There he saw the Almanac ephemera paper and all that his mind echoed was ‘Eureka’. That’s how the Brookshire typeface came into existence. It brought back the joy of 19th-century shop signs and the flamboyant design ethos. It made the old marketing typeface great again.

Usage: Express the joy of high Victorian design ethos on poster work, cards, quotes, and signage.

2. Cinzel Decorative

About Font: Cinzel is a typeface that imitates Roman inscriptions and classical proportions. It conveys all the ancient history of the Latin alphabet.

Origin: Natanael, an ardent typography fan, got inspiration from his early typography classes. He experimented with fonts and didn’t stop since. Thus, he became the designer of Exo and Cinzel, two very popular web font families. In 2011, he founded Ndiscover, a Portuguese Digital Type Foundry. Even though the play has become work for Natanael, he still enjoys designing fonts.

Usage: Made for retro-style ad creatives, blog banners, and posters.

3. Bangers

About Font: Fan of Marvel, DC, Ninja Turtles, and Phantom? Bangers is a comic book-style font that packs adventure and action. It is made for cover lettering that mimics the medieval-age superhero comics. 

Origin: Vernon created the Bangers font. He was a furniture restorer who later became a typeface designer. He mastered all design types, from lively script faces to workhorse text families and UI. Thus, New Typography became his type design site.

Usage: Create blog banners, posters, social media posts, thumbnails, quotes, and cards. The banner of this blog is a good example that includes this typeface.

4. March Rough

About Font: March is a modern serif typeface with a clean display. This font is a great choice to increase the prominence of your project. Although the typography is traditional, the basic elements are great.

Origin: Donis gave birth to the March typeface. He aimed to provide fonts for designers all around the world. When the March Rough font family arrived it became sensational for vintage theme designs.

Usage: Suitable for any print template, logo, covers, shop, and store names. Use in branding projects, houseware designs, and product packaging. Also, try this font as a stylish text overlay on any background image.

5. Art Nuvo Letterpress

About Font: Art Nuvo Letterpress is a designed hand-drawn decorative font. It comes in 6 crafted styles for free in Canva.

Origin: Phil found inspiration everywhere and in one such moment he invented the Art Nuvo Letterpress –  a psychedelic-inspired font.

Usage: It is great for music artwork, and trippy and experimental theme designs. So, have fun with it.

6. Romman

About Font: Romman is a Canva exclusive free font with a hand-made touch, and a wavy inky effect. It has an even and sleek handwritten brush stroke.

Origin: The origin was unknown and so was the designer’s name. This font was deep down the list of many fonts in Canva.

Usage: You can design quotes, social media posts, cards, letters, and resumes. I also recommend you try decorating posters and banners.

7. Niconne

About Font: Niconne font is a transformed version of the 1925 typeface, Madonna. It is a free Libre Webfont across the internet. It is suitable for web browsers, laptops, and mobile devices.

8. Diplomata SC

About Font: The Diplomata SC is a serif font concerned with modern vintage design needs.  Its stylish spikes in the end stroke of each glyph brighten up and give prominence to Diplomata.

Origin: Diplomata SC originated from an old metal typeface. The font maker Eduardo digitalized the old font and gave it a new transformed look. His new font not only preserved the essence of the old typeface but also expanded its use.

9. Hatton Black

10. Magnolia Script

About Font: Magnolia is a beautiful handwritten script font. The ligatures and alternative styles have a good flow that makes your design bloom.

Origin: The two type designers Tanya and Ivan Gladkikh created the Magnolia Script. The Typetype published this free retro script in 2016, Russia.

Usage: It works well with magazines, movies, and book titles. It blends into designs related to photography, wedding, invitation, restaurant menu, and T-shirts.
